FUN FACTS

  • I love to travel in Canada, the US, and to the Caribbean, but the feather in my cap (so far) is visiting the pyramids of Giza.
  • As a father of 2-young children, travelling abroad has slowed down, so you can find me most weekends in a trailer by the lake or out in a canoe.
  • Since I deal with drainage so often, my office nickname is the “puddle police! ”.

Project Engineer
City of Thunder Bay, Engineering & Operations Division,
City of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada

Aaron Ward is a Professional Engineer who spent the first half of his 20+year career in the private sector before moving the public sector in Thunder Bay in 2012. Like many public sector employees, he wears lots of hats, and each days’ work is different than the previous. While he is involved in all new development in the City, his primary focus is working to address stormwater issues, including flooding, water quality, and building resiliency in the face of Climate Change.  In 2012, Thunder Bay had 12 City owned stormwater facilities, but that has since increased to 81 City owned facilities as of 2022, including 29 Green Infrastructure (or LID) facilities.  In 2016, the City adopted a new City-wide Stormwater Management Plan that identified over 550+ new stormwater facilities, with a focus on Green Infrastructure facilities.  Aaron also works with many community partners including government agencies and the private sector to promote, educate, and facilitate the
installation of Green Infrastructure facilities on private property across the community.
