FUN FACTS

  • We are a rescue family. We currently have a 9-yr old pit bull, a 7-month-old mix, and two chinchillas who are approaching 13 years of age. (Adopt, don’t shop!)
  • I regularly embarrass my children and husband by dancing in public, singing too loudly, and crying at
    commercials.
  • I have engaged with thousands of people in moments when they most needed support as a volunteer crisis counselor. Taking a break to fill my own cup now, but I hope to return soon. Text or call 988, 24/7 if you are in need.

Sustainability Program Manager
Cook County Department of Environment & Sustainability,
Illinois

Deb Kutska manages a variety of programs that support Cook County residents and municipalities, connecting them to opportunities that improve resident health, reduce environmental impact, bolster resiliency of communities, and mitigate negative effects from a changing climate. She and her fellow team members work to center equity, environmental justice, and community engagement in program design. Deb came to the county in 2021 after serving as Oakton College’s first Sustainability Specialist and over a decade working with accredited zoos in conservation leadership, outreach, education, and animal care. She holds a
bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in Biological Sciences and a Master’s degree in Conservation from Columbia University in the City of New York. Deb finds balance by spending time with her human and non-human family members and friends, exploring nature and museums, reading, and volunteering.
